Honeywell’s Federal Manufacturing & Technologies business manages the U. S. Department of Energy’s Kansas City National Security Campus in Missouri and New Mexico, manufacturing sophisticated mechanical, electronic and engineered-material components for our nation's defense system. The CNC Machinist/Programmer provides machining, and product life-cycle support in a classified prototype and low-rate production environment. Independently fabricate machine parts and applications for a wide variety of materials and sizes using blueprint drawings and CAD models on CNC and manual lathes, mills and other equipment. This role requires you to be skilled in CNC machine programming and operation. Implements continuous improvements and assumes a variety of shop roles when needed.

  • Provide machining support for the fabrication of components which range in size from miniature to very large and include common materials as well as materials with hazardous characteristics.

  • Work from complex drawings, prototype sketches, electronic files and/or verbal instructions to facilitate the manufacturing of parts and assemblies by programming, setting up, and operating manual and CNC mills and lathes, EDM and a variety of general machine shop equipment.

  • Experience with production of high precision parts and performing complex setups required to produce the parts; ability to write and troubleshoot machine programs.

  • Ability to provide labor and material estimates developed from provided drawings, electronic files and blueprints.

  • Uses hand-and power tools such as saws, sanders, arbor presses, stretch presses, electrical discharge forming devices, rolls, power shears, press breaks, mechanical tubing and Teflon cable benders, metal spinning lathes, routers, hydraulic and mechanical presses, dolly blocks, Yoder and planish hammers, power jacks, shrinkers and stretchers, and uses necessary precision measuring instruments.

Demonstrate superior experience with CAD packages such as Solid Works, MasterCam and/or Pro E.

  • Experience working with solid models and 3D surfacing.

  • May perform other duties as required.

You Must Have:

  • US Citizenship needed to obtain and maintain required US Dept of Energy "Q"-level security clearance

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience with programming, setup and operation of a CNC Lathe machinery in a production/prototype environment.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience reading and interpreting drawings (GD&T), schematics, specifications and CAD files and translating into Mastercam programming and setup for CNC machinery.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in the use of various measuring instruments to include micrometers bore gauges, calipers, comparators, etc.

  • Associates Degree or 2 years of technical school or in lieu of Associates Degree, 6 plus years of related experience in the machining/metalworking trade through a vocational technical school, military, accredited educational institution or equivalent experience will be considered.

  • Ability to lift 35 lbs. unassisted.

We Value:

  • CNC Mill-turn / 5-axis machining programming and operation experience preferred

  • CNC Mill machining programming and operation experience preferred

  • Excellent computer skills and proficient using Microsoft software programs (Outlook and Excel).

  • Welding, Sheet Metal or Powder Coat experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to take parts from blueprint and raw stock to finish and inspection without instruction. *Confidence and Ability to hold tolerances inside + or - .002 (2 thousands of an inch).

  • Completion of a Department of Labor certified Apprenticeship program is desired.

  • Ability to operate in a secure two-person-controlled work environment

  • Ability to interface with customers, engineers, and technicians to deliver the committed results.
