ABOUT THE ROLE

The Sr Advanced Mechanical Systems Engineer is within Space Engineering and part of the team developing the Carbon Dioxide Removal by Ionic Liquid System (CDRILS), an astronaut life support system for spacecraft, as well as other technologies that make it possible to live and breathe in space.

This role will support 1) the design, build and test of the Carbon Dioxide Removal by Ionic Liquid System (CDRILS) Flight Demonstration Unit (FDU) which will undergo flight demonstration on ISS in 2027/2028 and 2) continue to advance Honeywell’s technology in Environmental Controls and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) for space as well as terrestrial applications.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Be the Lead Systems engineer or Project Engineer for CDRILS or other ECLSS programs

  • Interface with Honeywell’s customers on a weekly basis

  • Support the team to successful delivery of CDRILs to NASA

  • Support the technical team(s) to solve key technical problems with workable solutions in a defined period of time

  • Hybrid Work Schedule

  • Travel: up to 25%

  • Reports to: Sr Systems Eng Manager

    U.S. CITIZEN REQUIREMENTS

Must be a US Citizen due to contractual requirements

MUST HAVE

  • 5+ years of Engineering experience

  • 2+ years of Carbon Dioxide Removal by Ionic Liquid System (CDRILS) or Environmental Controls and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering or mathematics

    WE VALUE

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • Expertise/experience in the following areas:

  • Spacecraft technologies, specifically CDRILs and ECLSS

  • Working with NASA

  • Being the primary contact point for customers

  • Presenting papers at conferences and writing technical papers

  • Eagerness to mentor junior engineers

  • Leading a technical team
