Area Sales Manager

Position summary

The purpose of this position is to identify, prospect, tender and close on new SLA opportunities in existing & new market sectors. You will also support the existing customer base by providing a timely and cost effective response to opportunities identified.

Key responsibilities

Management and Leadership

  • You will develop new SLA opportunities in existing & new market sectors, either on a regional or national account basis, conducting site surveys where appropriate whilst ensuring partner relationships are maintained and further enhanced.

  • Support the retention of the existing contracted customer base.

  • You will liaise with regional TREND advance team to ensure all opportunities are investigated and progressed appropriately and to ensure the delivery teams are comfortable with the delivery before sale.

  • You will work closely with the Contract Manager, and Engineer Team Leaders, to ensure new contracts are handed over to operations effectively.

  • Report to Regional Operations Manager & National Operations Leader on performance

Customer Satisfaction

  • Through analysis of customer requirements and tender documentation you will produce accurate designs to the relevant standards and prepare quotations based upon bills of quantities

  • Monitor competition/threats to the Trend business

  • Work with field teams to maintain customer satisfaction at acceptable levels, and help resolve any customer issues.

  • Review VOC feedback and take appropriate proactive actions.


  • Contribute to planning/forecasting process through specific knowledge of managed area

  • Monitor financial performance of assigned customers on a regular basis and review with NSL.

  • Examine historical data in order to identify areas to improve our pricing process

Estimate and Risk Reviews

  • You will participate in estimate review process prior to jobs or contracts being quoted to ensure labour estimates are correct and that the work is achievable from a technical perspective. Ensure that subcontracts, where applicable, are complete and documented.

  • Participate in risk reviews.

  • You will have an awareness of risk and escalation of non-standard T&C’s

Team Building

  • Develop excellent relationships with PSM’s, KAM’s, Engineering.

  • Actively discourage silo mentalities and attitudes.

Knowledge, skills and abilities

Knowledge and skills

  • Related support services experience with Trend BeMS or similar

  • Thorough knowledge of service field operations and financial processes.

  • SLA experience including standard processes and contract awareness (advantageous)

  • Expertise in communicating, negotiation and implementing process.

  • Experience pricing & winning small or large SLA opportunities

Education level and/or relevant experience

  • Excellent customer facing skills

  • Commercial awareness

  • BS degree in a technical discipline or equivalent technical experience required.

  • Flexible and adaptable

  • Demonstrates honesty and integrity

  • Effective communicator

  • Proven experience in solution and service selling

  • Numerate/fully IT literate

Other requirements

  • Understanding financial data at contract level and identify appropriate actions indicated by variances to ensure key metrics are achieved.

  • Obtain relevant information on operational issues from multiple sources, think broadly about those issues and recognize trends/possible cause-effect relationships.

  • Mobilize resources and develop and implement action plans / control mechanisms to achieve desired results and deliver on commitments.
