The Analysis Methods group (within the Engines System And Components Analysis department) is seeking an engineering intern with a background in data analysis, mathematics and computer science, with an interest in the analysis of gas turbine engines. If you would like to apply the latest advances in data analysis to mechanical engineering, this might be the job for you.

The qualified intern will join an existing team of engineers that are developing the analytical methods and tools for utilizing mechanical test data for engineering decision-making. The position provides the individual with an opportunity to interface with system engineering analysts within the engines and APU product lines, laboratory test systems and personnel, and experts in the information technology groups.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Improving algorithms for fault detection, given engine test data streams

  • Developing automated data reduction / analysis pipelines

  • Creating software test frameworks for critical engineering applications

  • Participating in tool maintenance and enhancement initiatives, with a focus on System Analysis data tools.

  • Working closely with user community to identify product bugs and implement timely fixes.

  • Working closely with Phoenix lab regarding access to test data to support our internal customers.

  • Providing timely and quality day-to -day support to the user community.

  • Developing documentation & training materials.


  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics or Mathematics

  • 1+ years of experience in software development processes, architecture, coding, software configuration management, and high level software languages (including Python).

  • Must graduate after December 2020

  • Must continue enrollment in degree program upon completion of the internship

  • Due to US Export Control Laws, must be a US citizen, permanent resident or have a protected status


  • Currently pursing a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics or Mathematics Experience and interest in gas turbine engines.

  • Experience with issues surrounding laboratory testing and instrumentation.

  • Strong customer focus, excellent communication & interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to communicate and deal effectively with ambiguity regarding continually changing requirements, including the stop, hold and restart of multiple projects/activities.

  • Ability to influence and strive for win-win resolutions of issues.

  • Dedication to meeting the expectations and requirements of customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive program commitments.

  • Effective listener and be flexible in approach and in searching for best solutions.

  • Strong teamwork skills, able to work in a variety of roles within cross-functional team.
