Honeywell Sr. Advanced Embedded Engineer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Honeywell is seeking a Sr. Advanced Embedded Engineer to join our Mobile Platforms team. You will be responsible for assuming a leadership role within the organization and be expected to contribute to all aspects of the software development lifecycle. You will join an established team of engineers and be responsible for serving as both a technical lead and mentor to other engineers both within and outside of the organization. This position is responsible for working as an architect within the platform team as well as leading and managing work of remote teams. This position is expected to provide technical leadership across multiple projects and be a part of the overall Platform Software technical leadership. Honeywell’s growth in the Voice business has resulted in a need to expand our current team to support development of new features within existing products as well as plan and develop new product offerings. The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in embedded software with a proven ability to take ownership of significant portions of system development and be able to deliver on time, to specification and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the architecture and all technical aspects of the embedded software development of the Voice product line

  • Technical lead for all embedded software deliverable's developed both internally and externally

  • Technical expertise in wireless communications including WLAN and Bluetooth

  • Work cross functionally with all teams to architect next generation products with focus on operating system selection, wireless communications, sensors, codecs and all peripherals

  • Perform technical feasibility studies

  • Participate in requirements generation and elaboration

  • Author white papers and design documents

  • Analyze hardware component documentation and industry technical specifications, and build software architectures to support their use

  • Review designs and code of other engineers

  • Integrate and debug 3rd party software

  • Work closely with the Hardware Engineering group on design and technical issues

  • Evaluate potential suppliers and vendors

  • Report project technical progress, issues and risks to management


  • BS in EE, CE, CS or related discipline, MS preferred

  • 10 - 15 years of software development experience with at least 5 years in C/C++

  • Extensive applicable experience in product design and development


  • 10 years of experience leading projects and developing expertise including continuous process improvements

  • Experience with embedded SOC processors, especially Qualcomm, OMAP, and other ARM core based processors

  • Writing/debugging driver software, especially for Audio CODECs, WLAN, USB, SDIO, Bluetooth, NFC, NAND flash, eMMC, and I2C controlled devices

  • Embedded Operating Systems, with an emphasis on Embedded Linux and custom Windows CE builds using Platform Builder

  • Familiarity with revision control (GIT, Perforce, etc.), OpenEmbedded build system (BitBake), issue tracking (Jira), software debug tools (GDB), and electronic test equipment (multi-meters, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little or no guidance

  • Able to work in a high energy, motivated team atmosphere

  • Ability to multitask across multiple projects/initiatives with an understanding of the organization’s strategic direction

  • Ability to focus on technical details while maintaining, driving towards and refining the high level picture

  • Ability to make decisions quickly

  • Ability to mentor and grow other team members both within line of business and the broader organization

  • Ability to plan technical work and provide inputs to schedule and estimate generation

  • Strong analytical skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Some travel will be required (10%)
